Vaccinations

No immunizations are required to get your VISA and visit Nepal, but it’s recommended that you are vaccinated for Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Meningitis before you arrive. If you haven’t been vaccinated for Tetanus, Polio, Mumps, and Measles in a while, boosters of these are a good idea.

Make an appointment with your local travel doctor about 6 weeks before you plan to travel to Nepal to ensure that you have time check what vaccinations you require and so you have time to complete the treatment.

Depending on your travel plans, you may also consider getting protected against Japanese Encephalitis, Hepatitis B, and Rabies. This is especially important if you have young children, are coming for an extended period of time, visiting rural areas, or going to the tropical Terai Region.

There is no risk of malaria in Kathmandu, Pokhara or the mountainous trekking areas so most visitors to Nepal don’t need to worry about this. If you are planning to visit Chitwan National Park or Lumbini in the Terai Region there is a low malaria risk so you should consider taking anti-malaria medication. Please see your doctor for the best advice.
