On arriving in Kathmandu you can either change your major currency into Rupees or use your bank card at one of the many ATM’s in Kathmandu to withdraw Rupees.

Using money transfer services like Western Union is also another way of safely transferring money to yourself and can be collected from on of the many agents in Kathmandu. We recomend that you bring at least a small amount of major currency cash with you to pay for your VISA and to convert into Rupees.

Nepal still operates in a predominantly cash based economy so making sure that you carry enough money is important especially when trekking up into the remote areas of the Himalaya where there are no cash machines. We can advise you on how much money you might require before you head off on one of our trips.

The major credit cards are often accepted by tourist hotels, restaurants and airlines but there are often high transaction fees for using this service.

Nepal is a very safe country but we still advise you to take good care of the relatively large amounts of cash that you will be carrying during your trip to Nepal.
